Abstracción, geometría, colores plenos suspendidos sobre un blanco neutro que los contiene. Así se presentan las obras de Daniel Jorge Calvo: trabajos en pequeño y mediano formato que se acercan al espectador desde una sensibilidad que impacta inicialmente desde lo visual sin cuestionamientos sobre relatos ni figuraciones aparentes. Sin embargo, el fundamento conceptual se esconde detrás de la pregnancia de las formas y al aplicarse una mirada más rigurosa, detectamos, sentimos, un orden que estructura y organiza aquello que pareciera ser aleatorio; es la música quien compone la melodía de las obras, marcando el ritmo que sigue la disposición de los elementos plásticos, la cadencia de los colores y la vibración general del todo.
Con una carrera relativamente nueva en el campo de las artes plásticas, el artista se define como autodidacta aunque reconoce la influencia de la mirada experta de Luis Felipe Noé, Eduardo Stupía y por qué no, aquellas charlas espontáneas con colegas como el pintor Mario Pérez, quienes supieron abrirle un camino dentro de este vasto campo de experimentación. Músico y compositor consagrado, Licenciado en Composición Musical por la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba y clarinetista de la Banda Sinfónica de la Provincia de Córdoba, Daniel Jorge Calvo busca una suerte de conexión, sintonía, afinidad entre ese plano abstracto visual de aquello que pinta y las formas de las notas que escucha. Como si fuesen pentagramas coloreados, curvas y rectas se combinan con una paleta sintética. La elección de los materiales tampoco es inocente: durante años el papel como soporte -¿cuál sería más apropiado para un compositor musical?- y la tinta china como el alma de la línea, dieron por resultado más de 150 obras que integran su repertorio sinfónico. Todas ellas numeradas cronológicamente tal cual un catálogo de música clásica, ninguna de las obras lleva por título más que un número que las ubica temporalmente dentro de su producción. Asimismo, sus trabajos más recientes -los cuales inauguran una nueva etapa al incursionar en una materialidad hasta entonces para él ajena como son la tela y la pintura acrílica- siguen respondiendo a la lógica numérica.
Nadie escapa a su esencia: Daniel Jorge Calvo es un artista que siente a través de la música. Y ese sentir se traduce en un diálogo entre la línea y el color, encargados de hacer visibles los sonidos que repercuten en su cabeza: “toda mi producción se relaciona directamente con la manera en que siento el arte, desde lo profundo de mi ser, desde los abismos de mi espíritu”, dice. Por eso la frase de Kandinsky me parece acertada, porque es la capacidad que tiene el artista de hacer sonar la nota exacta, aquello que nos permite ingresar en la experiencia del arte y conmovernos el alma.

Abstraction, geometry, full colors suspended on a neutral white containing them. This is how the works of Daniel Jorge Calvo present themselves: small and medium format pieces that approach the spectator from a sensitivity that initially impacts visually without questioning about contents or apparent figurations. However, the conceptual foundation is hidden behind the pregnancy of the forms and when applying when looking closely, we detect, we feel, an order that structures and organizes what seems to be random; it is the music composing the melody of the works, marking the rhythm that follows the arrangement of the plastic elements, the cadence of the colors and the general vibration.
With a relatively new career in the sphere of visual arts, the artist defines himself as self-taught although he recognizes the influence of the expert gaze of Luis Felipe Noé, Eduardo Stupía and why not, those spontaneous talks with colleagues like the painter Mario Pérez, who knew how to guide him within this vast field of experimentation. Musician and composer, with a degree in Music Composition from the National University of Cordoba and a clarinet player from the Symphonic Band of the Province of Córdoba, Daniel Jorge Calvo seeks a kind of connection, harmony and affinity between this abstract visual plane he paints and the forms and notes he hear. As if they were colored pentagrams, curves and straight lines combine with a synthetic palette. The choice of materials is not innocent either: for years, the paper used as support – which would be more appropriate for a musician composer? – and the chinese ink as the soul of the line, turned into more than 150 works that integrate the artist´s symphonic repertoire. All of the works are chronologically numbered just like a classical music catalog, none of them has more than a number by title which places the piece temporarily within his production. Likewise, his most recent works – which open a new stage when entering into a materiality hitherto unknown to him, such as canvas and acrylic painting – still follow a numerical logic.
No one escapes its essence: Daniel Jorge Calvo is an artist who feels through music. And that feeling translates into a dialogue between the line and the color, responsible for making visible the sounds that rebound in his head: “all my production is directly related to the way I feel art, from the deepness of my being, from the abysses of my spirit”, he says. That is why Kandinsky’s phrase seems accurate to me, because it is the ability the artist has to make the exact note sound, which allows us to enter into the experience of art and move our soul.
